Musical Instrument Family Classification
نویسنده
چکیده
A method to classify sounds of musical instruments (single monophonic notes) is introduced. The classification is done using in parallel two sets of perceptual features extracted from the sounds. The models used are a mixture of gaussians, whose parameters where found by training over a database of target sound families. The feature extraction procedure, model training and model usage for classification are explained. An implementation and results of the method are shown and discussed.

Musical Instrument Classification using Fractional Fourier Transform and KNN Classifier
Abstract— The classification of musical instrument, where the idea is to build a system that will listen to musical note and recognize which instrument is being played. In recognition of musical instrument the different musical instrument played based on isolated monophonic notes. Different feature component will be extracted and will be given to the classification system. Especially we will us...
متن کاملBAYESIAN APPROACHES TO MUSICAL INSTRUMENT CLASSIFICATION USING TIMBRE SEGMENTATION by
The task of identifying musical instruments in an audio recording is a difficult problem. While there exists a body of literature on single instrument identification, little research has been performed on the more complex, but real-world, situation of more than one instrument present in the signal. This work proposes a Bayesian method for multi-label classification of musical instrument timbre....
متن کاملClassification of Musical Timbre Using Bayesian Networks
In this article, we explore the use of Bayesian networks for identifying the timbre of musical instruments. Peak spectral amplitude in ten frequency windows is extracted for each of 20 time windows to be used as features. Over a large data set of 24,000 audio examples covering the full musical range of 24 different common orchestral instruments, four different Bayesian network structures, inclu...
متن کاملRadial/elliptical Basis Function Neural Networks for Timbre Classification
This paper outlines a RBF/EBF neural network approach for automatic musical instrument classification using salient feature extraction techniques with a combination of supervised and unsupervised learning schemes. 829 monophonic sound examples (86% Siedlaczek Library [2], 14% other sources) from the string, brass, and woodwind families with a variety of performance techniques, dynamics, and pit...
متن کاملAudio-visual musical instrument recognition
In 2008, a humanoid robot developed by Honda conducted a symphonic orchestra in front of a live audience. It perfectly imitated the pre-recorded actions of the orchestra’s human conductor. Despite its realistic movements, it was suggested that the robot could not listen to nor interact with the orchestra as a true conductor would. For a robot to truly direct an orchestra, it would need to hear,...
متن کاملRepresenting Musical Instrument Sounds for their Automatic Classification
A study on the automatic classification of musical instrument sounds is presented. A database of musical instrument sounds parameters was built for this purpose, which consists of musical instrument recordings and their parametric representation. The parameterization process was conceived and performed in order to find significant musical instrument sound features and to remove redundancy from ...
